Artifacts

Artifacts have already been donated by former internees. Handmade furniture, jewelry and artwork are among the items to be displayed. Items have also been retrieved from the site which illustrate the struggle to maintain some semblance of normal life within the barbed wire. Pieces of broken dishes, children's toys, the soles of a pair of zori, all give testament to what was at the time, the fifth largest city in Utah.
Using the restored recreation hall to recreate the living conditions endured by the internees, the Museum will depict their arrival from the SF Bay area and their struggle to maintain their families and community in the Utah desert. Since the recreation hall is not heated or air conditioned, a location will be secured in the town of Delta which will be suitable for storage and display of the artifacts.
The Museum Board intends to produce professional, museum quality exhibits which will communicate to the visitor the historic significance of what occurred at Topaz. By establishing an archive for artifacts and location for exhibits, the museum will provide a permanent repository of historic and important material which will be available to the public.
